In 1996, the first volume of the "Cottbuser Studien zur Geschichte von Technik, Arbeit und Umwelt" (Cottbus Studies on the History of Technology, Work and the Environment) was published, edited by Günter Bayerl, holder of the Chair for the History of Technology at the BTU Cottbus. 41 volumes later, Bayerl's retirement in 2014 marked the temporary standstill of this important platform for research in the history of technology and the environment. Since 2021, Marcus Popplow and Torsten Meyer have continued the series as its editors with Günter Bayerl's sanction - but no longer at Cottbus. The new title "Studies in the History of Technology, Work and the Environment", however, consciously places itself in the tradition established there.
Since the beginnings of the series, the history of technology and the history of the environment have developed into sub-disciplines, each with its own communities. With its special and cross-sectional topics, the "Studies on the History of Technology, Work and the Environment" aim to contribute to the debate in the research fields borne by its title.
